DESCRIPTION: My kitchen is old, small, and not functional. It does not have enough counter space and the lighting is very poor. I believe the current cabinets were built by a prior owner; they are not in good condition.
MY GOAL: I would like to expand my kitchen into my front foyer, front closet, and dining room closet (see the foyer, closets on attached drawing). I would like be able to use my refrigerator's ice maker, and I would like a dishwasher.
MY STYLE: My style is country/rustic. I have exposed wood throughout my house (wainscotting, hardwood floors, exposed beams, etc), and would like my cabinets to be natural wood.
WHAT I WANT: Although I would love a tile floor, I have a lot of heavy ceramic dishware, which would break if dropped and possible damage the floor. I will probably go with a high quality vinyl flooring.I would like to keep the project as eco-friendly or green as possible, by using recycled or sustainable materials (eg., Corian or bamboo) when possible.
PLEASE AVOID: I am looking for a mid range project; I don not want to skimp on quality, but I do not need top of the line.
THINGS TO TAKE INTO CONSIDERATION: Because I will be taking the front closet to expand the kitchen, I would like to add a "mud room;" opening off of the kitchen, and running to the front of the house. This would primarily only contain a closet. Because the roof over this part of the house is slightly lower than over the kitchen, the closet would need to be on the outside wall of the room to accomodate the roof angle. I would like this room to be highly insulated.
SITE-VISIT: I do not plan to have an open house for site visits, but will be happy to try to accommodate a visit if you would like to see the site.
